Thought for the Day

In theory, shouldn't the Tea Party crowd be throwing fits over Arizona's immigration law? Stopping and questioning citizens seems like the kind of arbitrary government tyranny they're supposedly against.

(Oh, that's right. Only white citizens have rights.)

Related: If the Arizona law stays on the books and stays as unpopular, it's going to cost them alot of convention and event money.

  • The Tea Party doesn't have a problem with big government. They just don't want big government to treat everyone equally... 'cause we're not. Big government is AWESOME when it's kicking ass and tanking names of The Other.

  • Agreed.

That's why I found the silence on this new law so telling.

  • Yes, telling. But hardly surprising, no?

  • I do not know how representative the people I read are, but all of them are against this.

I am curious though. Given the lack of any real organization or official spokespersons, how would you know if they support or decry this?

  • I get your point, and I'm oversimplifying the group, however...

These folks rally over anything, and I haven't seen or heard any words of support.

A "teapartyer against Arizona" sign would certainly get covered. Statements by any one of the many folks claiming to host a national organization would get covered. Frankly, with the oversensitivity by the media to the teaparty crowd, I think a medium sized argument on a website with anyone siding against Arizona might get covered. Because it would be news if the teaparty right even, in part, opposed this.

And there's reasons, even if the oppose, they might stay quiet, like you could lose your position, however, these folks have rallied over anything, over fictional threats, and this one is real, in black and white, and constitutionally more dubious than the laws they build their fantasies from, and yet...

    not a noted peep.
