Bobby Jindal vs. Science, again....

A lot has been made that, just a short time ago, La. Gov. and former Presidential hopeful Bobby Jindal made that speech decrying government spending (volcano monitoring!,) and that now he is asking for huge government spending to try and protect his state from the oil spill, but....

However, I don't think enough has been made on just how bad his position has been on the science of his spending positions. After Iceland, doesn't volcano monitoring make a little more sense?

And, this crazy billion dollar berm system he's been using as his political flail, in fact, is not generally perceived to be that good of an idea.

You got to wonder about a guy who thinks in such simple terms.

  • But it's all just emblematic of America as a culture. The general celebration of mediocrity and antagonism toward science and intellect. Simplistic platitudes and truthiness (or fantasy) as science won't be covered by "journalists" because most journalists (and Americans) operate the same way. Remember, to paraphrase Colbert, truth and science have a known liberal bias...

  • I was just struck by the overly simple sand berm idea, despite the fact that those who know say it won't work.

It echoed the border wall in my mind as a simple unworkable solution which appeals to simple minds.

  • Missile Defense Initiative... a berm in space protecting us from ICBMs raining down on the US.

  • Exactly. It's morally pleasing whether practical or not.
